It took many years, but at 32, I’ve finally come to terms with a simple fact:
How you respond when I say I’m a writer says more about you than it does about me. I wasn’t always wise-enough (or strategically ignorant enough) to know the difference.
I am one, a writer that is—-I do know that. But for some, it’s all a matter of how you define writer. Published novelist? Published in a local publication? Poet? Perhaps you just post online, or share with friends. Does audience matter? To some yes, to you—maybe? What I mean is, just like that word, “writer”, this website serves many purposes. I used to say this was a stepping stone to my writing career—too afraid to admit I had already embarked on one—-in case it didn’t live up to your, and in part my own, lofty standards. While my writing career hasn’t flourished as I originally had hoped, I have worked hard to redefine my perspective. More than anything my writing career looks like this website. It looks like sharing my passion. It looks like getting better every day with a few words put down on paper or typed into the abyss. I’ve come a long way and no longer feel the need to give a bunch of prerequisites for a page I am quite fond of—I’m a writer. Take that for whatever you’d like.
Welcome to my Writer Website.
So please, read my short stories and read my poems! Read what you can, read what you enjoy, but most importantly—just read. Even for my closest of friends, don’t read out of a sense of responsibility. If it feels like work or duty then I haven’t done a very good job.
If you have comments, concerns, or suggestions I would love to hear them. I can be reached by email at andrewmjaromin@gmail.com
